The Northern Gannet colony of Cape St. Mary, located south of Placentia in Southeast Newfoundland, is the second largest in North America, after the colony at Ile de Bonaventure off Quebec. The colony is on a high sea-stack situated just off the coast. As such it is easily viewed from the "mainland".
