On the day after the celebrations, we took a head-clearing hike on Devil's Backbone, a ridge northwest of Rathmullan with astounding views over Lough Swilly, the Malin peninsula and northwest Donegal. We had a gorgeous day and the hike lived up to its excellent possibilities. Parenthetically, Devil's Backbone is also the name of an amber ale made by the local microbrewer Kinnegar Brewing.
