Hameau de la Reine, Petit Trianon, Versailles.
Marie Antoinette had built the Hameau as a place of escape from the regimented rigors of Palace life. It was built in a Norman and Flemish style and contained a model farm, dairy and vegetable gardens. Here she would "play" at being a peasant, dressing as a shepherdess. She was perceived to be making a mockery of peasant life and this did not help her image.
