Godafoss, between Akureyri and Myvatn
It is said that Godafoss, Falls of the Gods, received its name when the local chieftain, upon his return from the 1000 AD Althing (Parliament) at Thingvellir where Iceland adopted Christianity as its official religion, cast his images of the old Norse gods into these falls.
