Humpback Whale, Strait of Belle Isle, off Blanc Sablon, Quebec
The Strait of Belle Isle, between the northern peninsula of Newfoundland and the coast of Quebec and Labrador, is a favorite feeding ground for Humpback Whales. On our return trip to Newfoundland by car-ferry across the Strait we encountered these two whales having a "whale of a time" breaching. Despite the stormy sea that was being roiled by a southwest gale, the whales put on a show as the ferry sailed by. We stayed on deck photographing until we passed them and the seas got too rough.
