The Needles unit of Canyonlands National Park in Utah preserves an area of desert flanking the Colorado River known for its fins and spires of exotically banded sandstone. Hiking trails lead into this wilderness. One such trail criss-crosses Elephant Canyon leading to Chesler Park, where tall needles of sandstone encircle a grassy "park".
