Island in the Sky is a unit of Canyonlands National Park in southeastern Utah. The confluence of two major rivers of the American Southwest, the Green (rising in the Wind River Range, WY) and Colorado (rising in the Rocky Mountains National Park, CO) is within this park.The park is on a huge island-like mesa 1000 ft above desert flats into which the Colorado and Green Rivers have cut their deep canyons. The Dead Horse Point State Park occupies an adjacent mesa overlooking the Colorado River. Dead Horse Point is the actual location for the climactic scene in the film "Thelma and Louise".
